this item is PERFECT for matte, shimmery/satin-y eye shadow. it works gr8 on glittery, foil-y or metallic formulas too. the thing is that you have to order the main sponge applicator piece which costs about $8 and that comes with 2 refills heads BUT it's always good to have extras of these sponge heads bcz you are not going to want to stop in the middle of your shadow work just to wash or rinse off the current use sponge head. also, the used ones do get clean if you wash them GENTLY & allow them to fully dry. however, they will probably be permanently stained (especially if used with quality pigments). anyway guys, i'm always looking to find $$$ saving loopholes in the cosmetic biz and this is definitely 1 of them. best!I use these to blend graphite in smaller areas. I love it! As the previous reviewer said, I would give it five stars if it weren't for the fact that it needs a gentle hand or it will tear easily. Still, one head lasts me quite a while before I have to replace it, and because it tears easily, it purposely makes my hand more gentle on my eyelid. Have used these for almost two years and still love it! I've tried all the applicators made for eye shadow with mediocre results, then some article I read somewhere had a makeup artist who said she goes to the art store for great makeup brushes and applicators, which led me to look for this.Starting a new painting using pan pastels. These are awesome!These Sofft Applicators are perfect for coloring into those "small" areas with my Pan Pastels. I would have given them 5 stars if it wasn't for how often they need to be replaced. If you're not gentle with these tips they will tear rather quickly. Especially if you clean them by swiping them on paper towel which is what the manufacturer suggests. Since the Sofft Applicators is sold at a reasonable price on Amazon, it's not difficult to replace.These foam tipped applicators are perfect for applying PanPastels!
